Edward Dennis Ronau

Edward D. Ronau, age 89 of Maumee, Ohio passed away peacefully on October 31. 2015 surrounded by family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 8, 1926 to Henry and Anna (Wise) Ronau. He worked for Unit Cast in Toledo, Ohio for 40 years as a millwright retiring in 1983. In 1944 he took a leave-of absence and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on a destroyer in the South Pacific, the U.S.S. Swanson, which was part of the seventh fleet. He married Mary Jane Lewandowski on August 28, 1948. They were married for 67 years. In 1949 they bought property in Maumee, Ohio and began building their home in 1950. Ed was extremely handy and did everything himself and because he worked full time and had already started a family, they did not move in until October of 1951. His second home was his garage, he loved to work on projects and was mechanically inclined. He would take apart a car and put it back together just for fun. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He had an easy going personality, great smile, and laughed about every day. He was known for the phrase, keep smiling. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; son, John; daughter, Joyce; son-in-law, Terry Kroeger; brothers, William, Lawrence, and Clarence; sisters, Catherine Mockensturm, Lucille Gramling, Mary Rockow. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; daughters, Shirley Kroeger and Patricia (Dave) Cramer; son, David (Jeanna); Grandchildren; Edward, Megan (Dan) Fowler, and Miranda Cramer; sisters, Ruth Harvey and Rose Mockensturm. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 2-8 pm at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on South Detroit Avenue.
