Edward Maurer, Jr.

March 11, 1953 — January 5, 2019

Edward Maurer, Jr., 65 years young, of Northwood passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2019. He was born on March 11, 1953 to Edward and Mary Clara (Porpora) Maurer in Rochester, PA, as the fourth of seven children. He graduated from Monaca High School in 1971 and then attended the University of Pittsburgh. On November 16, 1974, he married the love of his life, Karen (Eaton) Maurer, with whom he had four children, moved to Ohio, and recently celebrated 44 years of loving marriage. They always planned to reach their 80th anniversary together. Ed was beloved by his family and his community of Northwood. To his family, he was the world - their strength, their compass, their caretaker, and even their comedian. He offered those same attributes to his clients at his insurance company, Ed Maurer Allstate Insurance, on Woodville Road, where he served them with hard work and dedication for 22 years, treated them as extended family, and helped to guard against their own potential tragedies. He brought his practicality, wit, and charm to every encounter and life experience, no matter how difficult, helping to calm and comfort those around him in the process. Overall, Ed was a devoted family man, an amazing husband, a wonderful father and brother, a fun grandfather, and a relentless Steelers fan. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Karen; his four adoring children, Edward, Daniel (Kara), Justin, and Megan; his five grandchildren, Emily, Britney, Sophia, Isabella, and Jack; his sisters, Betty Jean (Tom) Stickel , Mary Ann French, Antoinette Dean; his brother Mike (Iris) Maurer; and additional loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Anthony; and his sister Melissa Leist. Visitation will be at Hoeflinger-Shank Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Avenue, Oregon, OH (419-691-6768) on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4 pm until the start of the funeral service at 7 pm. Online condolences may be left at Hoeflingerfuneralhome.com
