Edward L. Kretz

Edward L. Kretz, 48 of Holland, Ohio won his final victory into heaven January 10, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving wife and children. Ed was born on March 18, 1969 in Toledo, Ohio to Louis F. and Doris M. (Gilsdorf) Kretz. He grew up in Holland where he attended Springfield Schools playing football, wrestling, track, and hockey. Following high school, he married his soulmate Shelly Leon on October 28, 1989. Ed continued to be very active; playing and coaching youth baseball, softball and youth hockey for Tireman and Springfield High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Ed worked as the Store Manager of Tireman Auto Center exactly 18 years to the day. He was responsible for opening Holland store #9 in 2004 where he touched many lives and helped selflessly as much as he could. He leaves behind his loving wife of 28 years, Shelly (Leon) Kretz; children, Samantha (Bernard) Prenger, Brooke (Devin) Barnaby and Brendan (Makenzie Olson) Kretz; grandchildren, Niklas and Jakson and another grandchild due in August; sisters, Kathy (Ron) Fitch and Suzanne (George) Shaneyfelt; mother and father-in-law, Butch and Colleen Leon; brothers-in-law, Doug (Cheryl) Leon and Matt Leon as well as many nieces and nephews-. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Doris Kretz, sisters, Brenda Provo and Mary Kretz. Friends will be received on Saturday from 2-9 PM on January 13, 2018 at Neville Shank Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland (419-865-8879). A funeral Mass will begin at 10 AM on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Christ the King, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, Ohio 43623. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to the family or any cancer research center of the donor’s choice. #EDSTRONG
