Edward J. Kolanko, 87, of Walbridge, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Ed was born on November 14, 1930 in Oliver, Pennsylvania to Stanley and Rose (Aleksander) Kolanko. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Ed married the former Margaret Wojnar on May 2, 1959 and she preceded him in death in 1984. He was a Mold Operator for the former Libbey-Owens-Ford Company, Rossford, retiring after 39 years of service. Ed was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Walbridge, the Walbridge VFW Post 9963 and the American Legion in Oregon. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends, bowling and watching the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Tigers. Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Deborah A. Digby and Edward A. (Melissa Szabo) Kolanko; granddaughter, Faith E. Digby; brother, Joseph (Rose) Kolanko; brother-in law, Lawrence L. Wojnar, many loving nieces and nephews, and beloved friend and companion, Joan Schmidt. Friends will be received at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio (419-666-3121) on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner St. Walbridge, Ohio with burial following at Lake Township Cemetery, Millbury. Contributions in his memory may be directed to St. Jerome Catholic Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
