Dr. Edward J. Jacob passed away peacefully, after a brave battle with cancer, at the age of 72, on April 19, 2012. A life long Toledo native, he was born December 3, 1939, attended Gesu Catholic grade school and Central Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1957. Subsequently, he attended Xavier University attaining a pre-dental degree in 1960. He married his grade school sweetheart Ann Marie on June 23, 1962. He went on to attend The Ohio State University, achieving his dental degree in 1964. He proudly served as a dentist at the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois from 1964-1966. Throughout his 46-year practice of dentistry, he served on the peer review panel for the Toledo Dental Society for several years, and was a career-member of The Toledo Dental Society, The Ohio Dental Association, and The American Dental Association. He thoroughly enjoyed caring for thousands of patients, and was fondly referred to as Doc Jake or their golfing dentist. Ed was a member of Highland Meadows Golf Club for 43 years. He was actively involved in amateur golf, both locally and throughout the state of Ohio, having served on the board of directors for the Toledo District Golf Association from 1973-1978, and was the TDGA president in 1976. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Toledo Junior Golf Association and at a state level for the Ohio Golf Association. He was involved with the origination of the TDGA Father-Son Championship as well as the Al Stickle Cup, a highly competitive Toledo Senior amateur tournament named in memory of the late Toledo Blade sports writer. He competed in many Toledo as well as state wide amateur events, and in 1995, at the age of 56 was a quarterfinalist in the 41st United States Senior Amateur Championship in Prairie Dunes, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie; children, Dr. James A. Jacob Jacqueline and Kristin Ryan Dr. Steven; mother, Lucille Jacob; brother, Larry Jacob Patricia; sister, Janice Musarelli Tony; grandchildren, Kailey, Lindsey, and Trevor Jacob, Anna and Julia Ryan; and five nieces and nephews. Always known for his fair, gentle, and kind approach, he was a man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. His ability to embellish a story may have been one of his finest talents, allowing many smiles and laughs over the years. He has been and will always be loved and so very missed by his family and friends. Visitation is Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Walker Funeral Home on 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue west of Corey Rd. from 2-9 pm. Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 9:30 am, followed by the funeral mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5373 Main St. in Sylvania at 10 am. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family requests that donations be directed to the Hickman Cancer Center, St. Jude Childrens Hospital, or the Ebeid Hospice Center at Flower Hospital in Sylvania.
