Edward A. Holewinski, age 89, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Arbors at Sylvania. He was born in Toledo, OH to Michael and Mary Kaszynski Holewinski on February 2, 1921. Ed was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Armys 453rd AAA and AW Batallion. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe during World War II and received The Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 bronze stars and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of the Walter Weller American Legion and a member of Gesu Catholic Church for 54 years. Ed loved playing golf especially at Riverby Golf Course. He had a knack for growing tomatoes and cucumbers in his garden over the years and enjoyed fishing when he was younger. His work for the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas as chief court reporter resulted in the lasting nickname of Chief and Edski. Ed was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 54 years, Dorothy, who preceded him in death, as well a loving father and grandfather. Ed is survived by his son, Gary Mary Beth; daughters, Sharon Holewinski and Kathy Daniel Francoeur; grandson, Edward Anthony Holewinski II; sister, Margaret Heeter, and special friend, Bev Williams; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Ed was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Holewinski, Sister Angela Marie Holewinski CSSF, and Frances Matuszewski; brothers, Raymond and Thadeus Holewinski; brother-in-law, Raymond Matuszewski, and sisters-in-law, Mary and Margaret Holewinski. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-9:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Friday with 9:30 a.m. prayers at the funeral home followed by 10:00 Mass of the Resurrection at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd. Toledo, OH 43607. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff at Arbors of Sylvania for their loving care and support. Also, a special thank you to Dee from Hospice of Northwest Ohio for her compassionate care. The family suggests memorials be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Erie Shores Council, or Toledo Seagate Food Bank.
