Edward Ed P. Barker, age 68, of Toledo passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009 in his home. He was born October 28, 1940 in Norwalk, Ohio to Robert and Eileen Welch Barker. Ed worked in sales at various locations in Norwalk, Ohio and was also a CAD operator for Benchmark and Sigma Technologies in Toledo. An avid golfer, Ed taught golf at Divots and was a member of Riverby Golf Course. He was a member of the Norwalk and Maumee Elks and enjoyed bowling. A very social and outgoing person, Ed was known as the great debator. The love of his life was his family, especially his wife, son and granddaughter. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Mary Lou Shipley Barker whom he married May 21, 1983; son, Doug Danielle Barker; granddaughter, Linnea Barker; sister, Bonnie Parrish; special grand dog Fred; step-mother, Joan Barker; step-sisters, Joanie and Jessica; step-brothers, Jimmy and Tom; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Carol Shipley, Judy Jim Mersing, Karen Chris Baker, Mike Shipley, Jennifer Hatcher and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Don Barker; brother-in-law, Rosie Hatcher; niece, Lauren Baker and father and mother-in-law, Chuck and Louise Shipley. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Maumee. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Dr. Steiner and the Palliative Care Team for their friendship, loving care and support during this difficult time.
