Edward P. Bachmeyer Jr. of Perrysburg passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Manor Care in Perrysburg. He was born in 1944 to Edward Sr. and Mary Rick Bachmeyer who predeceased him. Ed grew up in East Toledo and Oregon, attended the Oregon Schools, and graduated from Clay High in 1962. He then earned a Bachelor of Education in Science Degree from the University of Toledo in 1966 and did graduate work at Eastern Michigan University. His teaching career began at McTigue Jr. High, where he also did his student teaching. Two years later Ed moved to Mason Jr. High in Erie, Michigan for the next 31 years, retiring in 1999, completing 33 years of teaching in his favorite subjects of Geography and English. While at Mason, Ed also served as Student Council Advisor, Newspaper and Yearbook Advisor and as the building rep for MEA. During his teaching career, he also worked in various positions at LaSalle’s, Macy’s and Elder-Beerman for 17 years at the downtown, Westgate and Woodville Mall stores. After retiring from teaching, he worked, briefly, for Old west End Collector’s Corner before joining the Toledo Museum of Art with the Visitor’s Service Department for ten years, retiring in 2011. Ed is survived by his brother, Paul (Donna) of Perrysburg; niece, Kimberly of Toledo; nephew, Chris and his son Aidan of Colorado; and nephew, Nick (Marian) and their children, Evelyn Wildey, Colin and Brandon of Columbus, Ohio. Ed was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Toledo, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, The Toledo Zoo, U of T Alumni Association, B&O Railroad Museum, Smithsonian Institution, and NEA and MEA Retired. Some of his favorite things were reading, traveling at home and abroad visiting 27 states, Canada, and 16 European countries, eating at favorite restaurants, going to estate sales, and being with people of all ages. Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 3 – 8:00pm at the Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, Ohio. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Rose Church on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 10:30 am. Private burial will take place at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, The Wood County Humane Society, The Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
