Edith M. Spaulding

March 4, 1923 — March 10, 2024

Edith Marie Spaulding passed peacefully on March 10, 2024. She was born to Alfred and Ethel (Aslaksen) Nelson on March 4,1923 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Edith lived a full and beautiful life. Growing up in Avon Lake with her sisters, brothers and cousins Summers were filled with picnics, swimming and large family gatherings. Holidays were spent at her Grandma Nelson’s house with all the Danish traditions. You could also find Edith reading in the apple tree, drawing, painting or playing with her beloved pets.

Her father’s work with the NYC railroad brought the family to Toledo where she met and married Kenneth Spaulding her loving husband of 69 years. They raised three children Candy, Keith and Cindy. As a young family they were very active members of Monroe Street Methodist Church and the West Toledo YMCA. This included the Y Dances, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and several other community events. They traveled to visit relatives and friends both near and far. Ken and Edie also visited Demark with the Y’s Men’s Club.

As their family grew grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren filled their hearts and home with so much joy!! The fun and traditions continued. Edith loved spending time in her gardens, decorating, arranging flowers, reading and praying – teaching her children and grandchildren to “enjoy all things created and creative”.

Cooking and baking were her way of blessing everyone who came to their home to share a delicious meal or “just a piece of cake and coffee” She always made birthdays, anniversaries, any of life’s milestones extra special with phone calls and cards filled with heartfelt messages.

Once our angel on earth- she is now our lovely star shining bright to light the way.

Edith is forever reunited with her parents, sisters and brothers, her husband Kenneth, her daughter Cynthia as well as the whole host of family members and friends gathered to welcome her home.

Left to cherish the sweet memories are her daughter Kenedie (Gary) Kreutzer, her son Keith Spaulding (partner Cheryl). Her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to her caregivers at Merrit House Foundation Park and Northwest Ohio Hospice.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made to Toledo Humane Society.

There will be a celebration of life for Edith on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Washington Church, 3925 Central Ave, Toledo, Ohio.
