Edith M. Landmesser

September 23, 1922 — August 9, 2016

Edith Landmesser blessed the lives of Wilbur and Hattie Rockhold upon her birth September 23, 1922. The Lord called her home August 9,2016 After graduation from high school and continuing education, Edith became a specialist in stenotype technology. She held a responsible position with a prominent Detroit law firm. Her life goals changed in 1952 when she married the love of her life, John Landmesser. Their ideal partnership and marriage brought many wonderful years to both. Edith was a very generous lady with a kind, gentle, giving spirit. She and John shared many challenging, fun, adventurous experiences. They did some hobby farming together which included hard work, laughs, and lasting memories. Their greatest joy were the hours they spent on their various boats and many trips on the waters of the Great Lakes and Florida waterways while spending the winters at their home in Lighthouse Point. When not on the water she loved her gardening which included the challenge of growing orchids, which she did very successfully, as well as roses, glads, and many others. Her surroundings were a colorful reflection of her tender spirit and love of life. After Johns passing in 1989, Edith continued her passion of gardening and supplying her little furry friends and birds with nourishment and care. Edith enjoyed life and made several fun trips with her good friend, Helen, including Hawaii, Alaska, Panama and several others. In 2001 she made the decision to build a new home in Sylvaniato the delight of her daughter Pat. After a lifetime in Michigan, Ohio became home. The only time this became a problem was during that BIG game in November. Her kind caring ways made it easy for her to make many new friends and continue her love of the furried and feathered creatures who enjoyed the banquet always available on her deck. After her unfortunate fall in 2011, Edith had to rely on round the clock care. During this trying adjustment her kind, loving, positive ways never wavered. Her girls loved doing extra - her nails, her hair, her special blanket because she was always grateful. Caregivers often said they received much more from her than they gave. Edith is survived by her children, John Jr. in Novi, Michigan and Pat Freeman in Sylvania, Ohio; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and many friends. We will always miss her kind manner, loving smile and caring ways. She will live in our hearts forever but our happiness is knowing she is walking freely in heaven with family and friends. We would like to thank Ediths very special friend and nursing confidant, Maureen; her caregivers, too many to name, but each loved for their special gift; Grace Hospice for their loving support and assistance, and Visiting Angels for their services. A memorial service will be held to honor Edith on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 1t a.m. at McCord Road Christian Church, 4765 McCord Rd., Sylvania, OH with a luncheon following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to McCord Road Church or Grace Hospice.
