Edgar Phillips

October 25, 1932 — April 20, 2025

Edgar Phillips, “Ed” age 92, of Monroe, MI passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025 at the home of his son Douglas.

Ed was born October 25,1932 in Piqua, OH. The family moved to Toledo, OH where he attended and graduated from Devilbiss High School in June 1951. It was there he met his future wife, Nancy (Krupp) Phillips. They were married December 8, 1951 in Toledo, OH. Sadly, Nancy preceded him in death on June 3, 2024 after 72 years of marriage. In 1955 Ed moved the family to Bolles Harbor in Monroe, MI where he would live until his death.

Ed worked at Canteen Vending for 40 years in various capacities, retiring as a supervisor. During their retirement years, Ed and Nancy enjoyed volunteering at the Valentine Theater in Toledo, OH which they did for over 20 years. Volunteering was very important to Edgar and so was his community. During his life he dedicated many years of service to the Bolles Harbor Improvement Association Board. On any given day, if you drove through the Harbor, you might see Ed driving his truck or his golf cart checking out the goings on in the neighborhood.

Living near the lake, Ed and Nancy enjoyed spending time in their boat “Poor Us.” Over the years Ed owned several Lyman boats. He had a 15, 18, 23 and 26 foot Lyman. There are some legendary stories of the family vacations of the five of them going for 2 weeks at a time to Metropolitan Beach in their 18 footer. Edgar was also a lifetime member of Monroe Boat Club.

Edgar is survived by three sons, Douglas (Debra) Phillips, Dale (Ann) Phillips, Don (Colleen) Phillips, one daughter, Janice Fletcher and one brother, James (Vicky) Phillips. Seven grandchildren, Kelly (Jay) Lake, Holly (Judd) Strohmeyer, Nicholas (Cristina) Phillips, Zachary (Julia) Fletcher, Erin Fletcher, Kristin (Emil) Bunek, and Jacob Szypka. Eleven great-grandchildren, Austin (Maddy) Lake, Kelsey Mullen, Alexis Lake, Ada Strohmeyer, Luke Strohmeyer, Palmer Phillips, Maggie Bunek, Zeta Bunek, Emil Bunek, Mack Bunek, and Blair Fletcher.

Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Phillips, his parents, Frank “Phil” Phillips and Imo Phillips Edwards, one sister Janice Hall, and two beloved great grandsons, Aidan Lake and Hogan Phillips.

Cremation has taken place. Private internment at Toledo Memorial Park will be held at a later date.
