Earnest Jack Wymer

June 6, 1940 — February 26, 2025

Earnest "Jack" Wymer passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. He lived a full and meaningful life, dedicated to service, family, and the passions that brought him joy.

Jack’s life was shaped by his deep love for the military. He proudly served as Security Police in the U.S. Air Force for over 27 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. His time in Vietnam left a lasting impact, and he remained deeply connected to his fellow servicemen, staying active in reunions of his unit and honoring their shared experiences. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued his commitment to service, working for 15 years as a trainer and administrator at the State Mental Health Hospital in Toledo, OH.

Jack’s sense of adventure and duty took him and his family across the U.S. and the world before he eventually settled in Maumee, OH. But no matter where he was, he always made a home filled with warmth, love, and a strong sense of community.

A lifelong dog lover, Jack had a special place in his heart for greyhounds. He was an active volunteer with the North Coast Greyhound Connection, fostering over 50 rescued greyhounds and giving 12 of them a forever home as cherished companions.

Jack had an unstoppable passion for life. When he found an interest, he embraced it with enthusiasm and dedication. He was a proud and active member of the local Democratic Party, served for many years as a poll worker, and held leadership positions in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, including serving as it's President. His love of history led him to the Society for Creative Anachronism, where he was a dedicated participant for over 30 years, earning many awards and accolades.

Jack loved deeply and was loved in return. He was married three times and was widowed each time. He shared his life with Mary Ann Wymer (24 years), Marilyn Wymer (31 years), and Gail Wymer (7 years). Though he endured great loss, he carried forward with resilience, love, and a generous spirit. He is survived by his three sons, Stephen, Scott, and Bryan, along with eight grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A visitation and memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, with visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and memorial service at 6 pm at Maison Dardenne Walker Funeral Home on Conant Street in Maumee, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to the ASPCA or your local animal shelter—causes that were near and dear to his heart.

Jack lived his life with passion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
