Earnest Chris Killion, 75, passed away on August 21, 2022 under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Even in the face of complicated medical issues, Earnie was always an optimist and continued to engage with his family, friends, and community.
Born February 10,1947 in Kentucky, to parents Chris and Ruth Killion, Earnie graduated from Mason High School in Erie, Michigan where he met and later married his wife, Phyllis (nee Schafer). They celebrated 53 years of marriage and had three children, Brook (deceased), Mathew, and Mark.
Earnie graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Engineering and he served his country in the United States Air Force. Earnie’s vocation as an engineer not only provided for his family, it allowed him to build an array of innovative household devices that helped Phyllis navigate her MS. He cared for her without fail. Earnie also served his community as President of the Beach Club in Euclid Ohio and as a volunteer in the Food Pantry at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Genoa.
Earnie is survived by his wife Phyllis Schafer Killion, children Matt Killion (Michele) of Marion Ohio, Mark Killion (Arati) of Atlanta, GA, grandchildren Emily and Nick Killion, brother-in-law Richard Schafer and sister-in-law Jonie Schafer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Ruth Killion, brothers Hershel and Carl Killion, parents-in-law Wayne and Helen Schafer, and infant daughter Brook. Cremation and a private ceremony will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to St John’s UCC Food Pantry, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, OH 43430 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
