Earl W. Smith, age 71, of Oregon, OH, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He was born on February 1, 1954, in Toledo, OH, to Duffy and Velma (Bean) Smith.
Earl dedicated his entire career to the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home in Oregon, OH, where he worked as a janitor for 35 years before retiring in 2019. Known for his quiet nature and strong work ethic, Earl took pride in his work and valued a simple, peaceful life.
A devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers and WWF Wrestling, Earl also enjoyed playing the Ohio Lottery—often playing twice a day. He found joy in feeding the birds and rabbits outside his home each morning and never turned down a slice of pizza, his favorite meal. Though he preferred the comfort of home and kept to himself, Earl deeply cherished his family.
He is survived by his siblings, Walter (Carol) Smith, Larry Smith, and Bonnie (John) Smith; nieces and nephews, Mark, Kathy, Paul, Rena, Jessica, and John; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. Earl was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Thelma, Dennis, David, and Steve.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Walker Funeral Home – Oregon Chapel, 3500 Navarre Ave., Oregon, OH.
Memorial contributions in Earl’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
