E. Joann Stevenson, 95, of Manchester, MO passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Willows of Tiffin, OH. She was born March 12, 1929, in Sparta, IL to Dr. Ralph M. and Eula (Blair) Stevenson. Joann grew up in Cape Girardeau, MO and graduated from Cape Central High School in 1947. Joann graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and then earned her bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.
She worked as an executive manager for The Bell Telephone Company for over 50 years, before retiring in 1987. Joann volunteered for the Salvation Army in St. Louis and served on their Executive Board. She was a lifelong member of the Bonhomme Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in her church circle and Sunday School Children’s Ministry. She was active with the St Louis Zoo and was avid in her love of wildlife. She was a seasoned theater and opera attendee. She loved travel and loved to tell of her travel experiences with her precious friends.
Joann was very creative with quilting and cross stitching, and she enjoyed making gifts for others. She passionately enjoyed playing Bridge and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Missouri Tigers. Joann liked to collect hats as well and had quite a collection of over 100 hats.
Joann was loved by many people. She never met a stranger. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt and dear friend to so many. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Ralph and Eula Stevenson, brother-in-law David Visnaw, precious nephew Dr. Steven Visnaw and honorary sister, Carolyn Whitmore. She is survived by her sister Karen S. Visnaw, and her brother R. Michael Stevenson (Debby), niece Kimberly and Stephen Richardson, niece Alison and Dr. Kurt Harrison, nephew Steven Visnaw’s fiancé, Mindy Ramirez great nephews and nieces: Jack, Sam and Will Richardson, Hunter, Katie, Spencer, Chase and Kurt, Jr. Harrison, Ashley and Melissa Visnaw.
A Memorial Service for Joann will take place in St. Louis, MO at Bonhomme Presbyterian Church on September 13, 2024, at 11:00am. Memorial contributions in memory of Joann may be given to the Salvation Army. Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor, OH is assisting the family with arrangements.
