E. Luella Kabat (Cruzen) died on February 6, 2015 surrounded by her family. Born on May 30, 1929 in Metamora, OH to the late Esther and Earl Cruzen, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lewis. Luella is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert E. Kabat, sister, Carol (Larry) Fruth, Fostoria, OH, daughters Judith A. Cross (Michael) Canal Fulton, OH, Shelly L. Raines (David) Cincinnati, OH, sons Robert M. Kabat (Margaret) Maumee, OH and James D. Kabat (Bridgette) Perrysburg, OH. She had 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Luella was valedictorian of Metamora High School class of 1947. She attended Bowling Green State University where she was the treasurer of Delta Zeta Sorority and graduated from the University of Toledo Cum Laude. She was an executive secretary at Owens Illinois and State of Ohio Health Department. Luella was a business teacher at St. Ursula Academy from 1973 to 1991, but also taught at Mary Manse College and Owens Technical College. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Education Honorary. She enjoyed playing the piano and was the organist at the Bowling Green Methodist church while she attended BGSU and assistant organist at the Maumee Methodist church for many years. Although sewing, cooking, baking and gardening were her hobbies, she played golf, bowled and crocheted extensively creating beautiful works of art. Luella and Bob traveled the world together and loved to dance. Luella had a wonderful sense of humor and at one time, her goal was to see how many famous people she could have her picture taken with. Most notable were Henry Kissinger, Senator John Glenn and Alan Alda. She was a generous and caring woman who never let an opportunity to help someone pass her by. But her first love was her family who will miss her deeply. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street, Maumee, OH 43537. Burial will be private at a later date.
