Emblem

Dwight Russell Fielding, 73, of Genoa, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 27, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, to George and Betty (Ball) Fielding.

Dwight was a proud 1970 graduate of Genoa Area High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, honorably serving his country. After completing his military service, he attended the Criminal Justice Training and Education Center in Toledo, where he earned his Ohio Police Officer Certification.

Throughout his law enforcement career, Dwight served with the Genoa, Elmore, and Fayette Police Departments. He was also a past member of both the Ohio Buckeye Sheriff’s Association and the Ohio State Troopers Benevolent Association. In addition, he gave back to his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Clay-Genoa and Gorham-Fayette Fire Departments.

After his time in law enforcement, Dwight pursued a career in trucking. He began driving for Parlette Farms and later for Lakeport Trucking and Owens-Illinois before founding two of his own companies, D.R. Fielding & Son and Tech Trucking, Inc. Starting with a single truck, Dwight’s hard work and determination grew his business into a fleet of eighteen trucks—a testament to his drive, dedication, and leadership.

On July 13, 1973—Friday the 13th—Dwight married the love of his life, Carolyn “Cookie” (Meng), in Genoa, Ohio. Together they shared more than five decades of love, laughter, and family.

Dwight is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn “Cookie”; their children, Sean (Mindy) Fielding of Grand Canyon, AZ; Elisabeth (Will) Craig of Lewisburg, TN; and Stephanie (David) Stacklin of Genoa, OH; and his cherished grandchildren, Dylan and Andrew Fielding, Savannah and Ashlynn Davidson, Bryson and Asa Craig, and Cearra and Noah Stacklin. He is also survived by his brother, David (Sherry) Fielding; sisters-in-law, Coni and Alyce Fielding; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dennis and Dale Fielding.

Beyond his professional and family accomplishments, Dwight was an avid musician and talented drummer. He enjoyed playing with area bands across a variety of genres—rock, round and square dance, and country—and was a member of the WTOD Jamboree Band for two years.
