Richard Franklin Wallin, of Perrysburg, Ohio, died January 5, 2026.
He leaves his wife, Susan Alice (Davis) Wallin; his daughter, Lynda Sue Fox; his son, James Franklin Wallin and his wife, Dawn; granddaughters, Alexa (Travis Smetana, Zander and Charlotte), Andrea (Brenden Micho); sister-in-law, Claudia Zirzow (husband, Al); and nieces: Jennifer (Mike) Holland, Aimee (Scott) Willems, and Kelly (Steve) Bohman.
Richard was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 31, 1939. He moved with his family to Brookfield, IL in 1951, where he met his wife to be while in elementary school. He attended Lyons Township High School and Junior College and the University of Illinois, earning a DVM in 1962, Masters of Science in 1963, and PhD in Pharmacology in 1966.
He worked for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in their Space Technology department and then at Baxter-Travenol Laboratories, where he helped discover the anesthetic, Sevoflourane, today, a widely used anesthetic. He then joined North American Science Associates and worked the rest of his career improving the development, testing and regulation of human medical devices. He published many articles in scientific journals during his career. He enjoyed traveling, writing, and singing in several musical groups and was a Stephen Minister. He will forever be remembered for his calm demeanor, keen wit, passion for Life Sciences and mastering of the "Dad" joke.
