Dr. Nasser H. Smiley

Dr. Nasser H. Smiley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 7, 1956, in São Paulo, Brazil, Nasser spent his early years in Ghazzeh, Lebanon, before moving to Toledo, Ohio, where he attended Rogers High School. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Toledo and later pursued his dream of becoming a physician, earning his medical degree from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Smiley dedicated his life to the field of cardiology, practicing with unwavering passion and care until the end. He will be fondly remembered not only for his medical expertise but also for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and selfless devotion to helping others.

Nasser had a deep love for family, friends, and simple joys in life. He was a devoted follower of current events, enjoyed lively card games, and cherished time spent drinking coffee with loved ones. Animals held a special place in his heart, and his kindness extended even to the neighborhood squirrels, which were easily recognized by their chubbiness thanks to his generosity. Nasser also always made sure to feed the birds every morning, rain or shine.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Phung; his sons, Omar (Sarah) Smiley and Zach Smiley; his brothers, Ali (Sanaa) Smili and Ahmed (Ghada) Smiley; and his cherished grandson, Zayn, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Nasser is reunited in peace with his parents, Hussein and Dia, his brother Abdulrahman, and his sister Lila.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, 25877 Scheider Rd., Perrysburg, Ohio, 43551 with burial to follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

Dr. Nasser Smiley’s life was a testament to love, compassion, and dedication. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
