Dr. Jennifer Kathleen Grogan

Jennifer Kathleen Grogan, age 49, of Sylvania, passed away on July 31, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 25, 1972, in Toledo to Thomas and Sue (Schuster) Grogan.

After graduating from Toledo Christian High School in 1990, Jen received a bachelor’s and Master of Science degrees from the University of Toledo. She then earned her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2001. Jen completed her general surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit before returning home to Toledo in 2006 to practice general and trauma surgery at The Toledo Hospital. She loved being a surgeon and practiced until being diagnosed with cancer in 2017.

Christian missions were always an important focus in Jen’s life. She was inspired by the story of David Livingston and as a young girl of thirteen answered the call to mission work given by a visiting missionary. Jen made trips to India, Guatemala, China, Ghana, Togo and finally the Democratic Republic of Congo. She spent a year in Congo as a surgeon and teaching surgery to Congolese physicians.

Jen found great joy in spending time with her family and friends. She also liked to garden, read her Bible, go for long walks, and cook for her beloved family. She also loved to travel, especially when it involved learning about other cultures and meeting new friends or on a family beach vacation.

Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Tom and Sue; sisters, Michelle (Mahmond) Mohamed and Melissa Grogan; and nieces Sara and Amira Mohamed.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 9-11 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2022, in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd.) where a memorial service to celebrate Jen’s amazing life will begin at 11:00 a.m. The Most Rev. Earl K. Fernandes, Bishop of Columbus, will preside. Inurnment will be private.
