Doyle “Rusty” D. Bolyard, 91, of Holland, Ohio, passed away February 24, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Rusty was born November 3, 1926 in Morgantown, West Virginia to Harrison H. and Ethel G. (Butcher) Bolyard. Rusty entered into the United States Navy on October 12, 1944 and fought in World War II. As a Fireman First Class USNR, he separated in 1946 and had been awarded the European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon Seven Stars, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon Two Stars. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Carolyn V. Johnson on March 28, 1948 in Oakland, Maryland. Carolyn preceded him in death in September of 1991. Rusty was a purchasing agent for 26 years for Welded Construction LP. Rusty was proud to be a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 499 in Point Marion, Pennsylvania. He was also an avid collector of Snoopy and Charlie Brown memorabilia. He had over 1000 pieces of memorabilia and has even been interviewed by news stations about his collection. Rusty is survived by his children, Michael D. (Ann) Bolyard, Edward R. (Linda) Bolyard, Jerry Z. Bolyard; grandchildren, Eric, Amy, Daniel, Steven, Aaron, Simon, Grace; many loving great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Bolyard; sisters, Florence Baker, Ruth Shown; brother-in-law, Bill Cook; and sister-in-law, Betty Sue. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; parents; son, Harrison W. Bolyard; sisters, Wilma Gay Cook, Ruby Fominko; and brothers, Barney Bolyard, and Melvin Bolyard. Friends and family will be received Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. S. Boundary St. Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 (419-874-3133) from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Rusty’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association or any American Legion Post.
