Douglas Keith Sweet

February 12, 1934 — April 22, 2021

Douglas Keith Sweet was born on February 12, 1934 and passed away peacefully from this world on April 22, 2021. A U.S. Army veteran, Doug had an enduring strength of character and always remained calm in the face of any obstacles. Underneath his stoic exterior he was exceedingly kind and generous, always willing to take in a stray cat, play with his great grandchildren, or lend a helping hand. Doug never ceased to find the beauty in the natural world and shared his artistic vision with others via his photography. His wanderlust took him on multiple trips to Europe and across the United States looking for new photographic vistas. In recent years, he enjoyed traveling to National Parks including Acadia and The Great Smoky Mountains with the Toledo Photo Arts Club. He also regularly enjoyed embarking on adventures throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Doug spent time enjoying the Metroparks and Botanical Gardens and kayaking area waterways with his friend and companion Ruth Rittichier. While at home, Doug enjoyed gardening and yard work and created charming patios and decks on his property from which to enjoy the sweeping views of Sidecut Metropark. An avid learner, Doug never stopped embracing new technology. He had an enthusiastic appreciation for music and instilled that love in his children. Doug’s memory will be kept alive by his daughter Marti Sweet and son and daughter-in-law Douglas Jambard-Sweet and Carole Jambard-Sweet, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Wendell and Eleanor Sweet, his siblings, David Sweet and Elizabeth “Libby” Morden and his loving wife of 52 years, Ernestine Sweet. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at a later date. (Please contact a family member for details or visit the funeral home website at walkerfuneralhomes.com) Doug lived a long, full life and his love of the arts and adventurous spirit are a lasting legacy for all who knew him.
