DOUGLAS L. SANTCHI, JR. Douglas L. Santchi, Jr., 71, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away, October 23, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee. He was born in Toledo on November 9, 1939 to Douglas L. and Marguerite E. (Ackerman) Santchi, Sr. and was a 1959 graduate of DeVilbiss High School. After graduating from high school, Douglas served our country in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1962. He married Barbara Sue Rutchow on November 16, 1963 in Toledo. He continued his education at University of Toledo until he began working for Owens Illinois in New Product Development at the Tech Center. He continued as a Process Engineer with O-I up until 1987 when he began working with Medar Company in Farmington Hills, MI and in 1999, he began working with Semcom in Toledo until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Perrysburg and a member of the Perrysburg Boat Club of which he served as Commodore in 1991. He loved power-boating and sailing, spending many summers with his family on the Maumee River. He was a gifted craftsman who enjoyed building radio controlled planes, boats and cars, N gauge RR train miniatures, and spent countless hours with his sons and grandsons building just the right boats and cars for their numerous Cub Scout races: the Rain Gutter Regatta and the Pine Wood Derby. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Santchi; children, Jason D. (Dawn) Santchi of Swanton, Jill D. (Van) Husted, III of Toledo and Justin D. Santchi of Perrysburg; and grandchildren, Camrin, Colton and Carson Santchi and Van, IV, Douglas and Megan Husted. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Daniel Husted; and sisters, Joann Moore and Nancy Hamilton. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Wednesday in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) where funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 27, 2011 with Pastor Gary Rode officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Meigs Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
