Douglas Leroy Park

Douglas L. Park, age 86, of Toledo, passed away on April 2, 2025 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on December 17, 1938 in Toledo, OH to Ernest and Violet (Mozena) Park. Doug was a proud graduate of Macomber High School and he was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Wisconsin for football.

In 1975, Doug married the love of his life, Margo Chambers, and they shared nearly fifty wonderful years together. Doug's passion for sports was evident throughout his life. He was a talented football player, winning the Casimir "Hippo" Gozdowski Memorial Trophy and being named the outstanding athlete of the community in 1957. His athletic prowess also earned him the Toledo Blade All City Offense title.

Doug's love for sports extended beyond his playing days as he became a dedicated coach for soccer and tennis. He coached soccer at McAuley High School and Sylvania NorthView, and tennis at McAuley High School. His exceptional coaching skills were recognized when he was named NWOSCA Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1989. He built a successful career working with multiple distributors. Representing Zenith, Corning, and Amana. As a result of his accomplishments, he was a recipient of numerous sales awards within the industry.

Doug was a very talented artist and self taught architect. He created numerous beautiful wood carvings and was the first one to help create multiple homes and make a dream project come true. He will be fondly remembered for his unique "Dougisms," especially his favorite sayings, "How hard can it be?", "Measure twice cut once", and "If you are going to be stupid, you have to be tough!" He had a simple joy for life, often enjoying a Coke and a hot dog. Above all, Doug's family will miss his unwavering love, friendship, laughter, support, and the comforting shoulder he always offered.

Doug's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

Doug is survived by his wife, Margo; children, Darcy (Mike) Park and Ryan (Jacqueline) Park; grandchildren, MacAlister, Duncan, and Ainsley Park; and godson Clifford (Laura) Funka. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Violet; siblings, Doris (Morris) Berry, Lucille Lewis and Ernest (Mary) Park; daughter, Dana Park.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 4:00 pm until the time of Memorial Service at 7:00 pm in Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St, Maumee, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and MemoryLane Care Services. Condolences can be shared online at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
