Douglas F. Juergens

Douglas F. Juergens, 51, of Oak Harbor, died as a result from injuries sustained in an auto-pedestrian accident Wednesday, February 12, 2008, near his home. Doug was born April 4, 1956, in Oregon, Ohio, to Gerald L. and Barbara L. Jones Juergens. On December 10, 1988, in Oregon he married Janet Jan Fitzpatrick, who survives him. Doug was the Chief Financial Officer for the Genoa Bank Company for the last 11 years. He had taught accounting and business classes at Owens Community College for 15 years and was a CPA for 25 years. He was also past treasurer for Goodwill Industries of Northwest Ohio. Doug played football and wrestled for Woodmore High School from 1970-1974 and had also refereed football and varsity wrestling for eight years. In 1991 and 1992 he served as the mayor of the Village of Elmore. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Elliston, where he served on the administrative board as well as the Board of Trustees. Many of Dougs hobbies included antiquing with his wife, gardening and canning, woodworking and restoring furniture. In addition to his wife, Jan, Doug is survived by his daughter, Anastasia Nicole Nikki Juergens at home, mother, Barbara L. Juergens of Elmore, brothers, Gerald Jo L. Juergens, Jr. of Pittsburg, CA and Garry Val Juergens of Elmore. He is also survived by nieces, Wendy Juergens, Jessica Juergens and Jackie Juergens and nephews, Jeremiah Juergens, James Juergens and Jeff Reinhofer. His father preceded him in death. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Genoa, and 2-8 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008, with the family present 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, in St. Johns United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington St., Genoa, with interment to follow in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials for Doug to Nikki Juergens Education Fund, in care of Genoa Bank, or the Ottawa County Humane Society, 2424 E. Sand Rd., Port Clinton, OH 43452.
