Douglas L. Burgan, 67, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away due to esophageal cancer on April 28, 2014, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg with his family by his side. He was born to Grover and Bonnie Burgan on March 7, 1947 Doug was a 1965 graduate of South Charleston High School in Charleston, West Virginia, and a 1969 Chemical Engineer graduate of West Virginia University. He later received his Master’s Degree in Business from Case Western Reserve University. Doug married Dawna L. Bayles on August 23, 1969 and in September he started working as a Chemical Engineer for SOHIO (later BP). After 30 years, her retired from British Petroleum and began working for Citgo Petroleum in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and then Marathon Oil in Findlay, Ohio in 2005. He ended his work career on July 1, 2013. During all his work years he was a regular blood donor to the Red Cross. Doug was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dawna, and his children, Scott (Kara) Burgan and Christine Burgan. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Aubrey and Brady; his mother, Bonnie; sisters, Suzanne (Bruce) Graham and Linda Herbert; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and one Aunt. He is preceded in death by his father, Grover, and sister, Sharon Satterfield. A service to honor Doug’s memory will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg, Ohio (419-874-3133). Memorial contributions may be made in Doug’s name to ECAN, an esophageal cancer organization, at www.ecan.org or an organization of the donor’s choice.
