November 20, 1954 – August 19, 2019 Douglas Dean Baxter was born on November 20, 1954 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was one of five children born from the union of the late Clifford and the late Ellen (Smith) Baxter. After attending high school in 1972, Douglas enlisted into the United States Army Special Forces, where he honorably served his country as a Green Beret, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) and earning numerous commendations. Douglas married the love of his life, the former Deborah Miller on October 7, 1998 in Maryland. Douglas was employed with The United States Postal Service and retired after over 30 years of service. He was an avid outdoors-man and enjoyed boating, fishing, shooting, and hunting as the seasons changed. He was a highly-ranked marksman in the military and competed on the national pistol team. He continued his love and skill for shooting later on in his life as well. Being out on Lake Erie and fishing for walleye was a part of his life he cherished. He liked to spend time with friends at the Owl’s Club, but most importantly enjoyed being with his family and his cats Creed, Ally, and Lucky.
