Dorothy A Zemper

Dorothy Ann Zemper, age 86, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018, at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, OH. Dorothy was born May 23, 1931, in Toledo, OH, to Charles and Rose Schlachter and was a 1949 graduate of Central Catholic High School. She was a 1953 graduate of Mary Manse College. She was married to her husband, George, for 60 years, until his death in 2014. Dorothy taught elementary school, raised a large family, and was a Social Worker for Toledo Catholic Charities until she retired. Dorothy was a devout, lifelong Catholic; a member of St. Jude and St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Churches and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Dorothy was talented in many areas, and enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors, was a member of Prizm Creative Community, and exhibited her paintings at local art shows. Dorothy pursued her passion for antiques, auctions, and estate sales, with her sister, Mary. She loved her roses and was a member of the Toledo Garden Club, and numerous local organizations. Dorothy was a beautiful, artistic woman and gracious hostess who loved organizing parties for family and friends, dancing with George, and welcoming people into her home. She was devoted to her family and many friends, a proud mother and grandmother who cherished the time she spent with her family. Dorothy is survived by her children, Amy (Tom) Gargas, Jenny (Jim) Gilmore, Melinda (Keith) Gehring, Jude (Pam) Zemper, Claire (Todd) Kozlowski, and David (Amy) Zemper; 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George, her parents, sister Mary Taylor, and many relatives and friends whom she loved dearly. Friends may visit the family on Friday, March 16, from 3-8pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave (west of Corey Rd). Visitation will continue Saturday, March 17, after 9am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, followed by funeral mass at 10am. Interment will be private.
