Dorothy J. Welch, 89, of Perrysburg, OH passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the University of Toledo Medical Center. She was born on, April 27, 1926 in Muncie, IN to Ralph B. and Mary Ida “Daisy” Hamilton. Dorothy was a 1944 graduate and valedictorian of her class at Whitney Vocational High School in Toledo. She married her junior high school sweetheart, Robert C. Welch, in Toledo on January 26, 1946 who preceded her in death on, October 11, 2008. In 1980, together they founded Welch Publishing Co. which prints the Perrysburg Messenger Journal, Rossford Record Journal, and the Point and Shoreland Journal. Dorothy was a proud patriot and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Perrysburg where she had served as a Sunday School Principal. She was also a member of the Toledo Glass City Doll Collectors, and was a Past Matron of the Perrysburg Order of the Eastern Star #446. Other Eastern Star positions include Marshall in 1973, Adah 1974, Associate Conductress 1975 and1980, Associate Matron 1977, Worthy Matron 1978, Warder, 1988, 1989 and 1993, and Grand Page 1992. She received her 25 year pin in 1997 and her 40 year pin in 2012. She is survived by her sons, Matt H. (Brenda) Welch of Perrysburg and Dr. Robert A. (Sally) Welch of Canton, MI; grandchildren, Amy Pickering, Chester Welch, Alissa (David) Ingram, Destiny (Don) Pisula, Olivia Dacre, Adam (Andrea) Welch, Robert (Anne-Marie) Welch, Jr., Branden (Natalie) Welch, Kathryn (Mike) O’Donnell, Noah Welch and Sydney Welch; great-grandchildren, Madeline Dacre, Allison Pisula, Aidan Ingram, Derrek Welch, Benjamin Dacre, Troy Pisula, Conner Welch, Claire Ingram, Samantha Welch, Addison Welch, Alexandria Welch, Patricia Riley Welch, and Amelia Welch; daughter-in-law, Sally Welch; sister, Mary Whitten of Grand Rapids, OH and sister-in-law, Joan Hamilton of Riga, MI. She was also preceded in death by sons, James M. Welch and John B. Welch; brother, Robert F. Hamilton. Friends will be received from 3-8 P.M. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) where O.E.S. #446 services will be held at 7 P.M.. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church, 601 E. Boundary St. in Perrysburg with Pastor Dennis Ditto officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Meigs Cemetery. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the Dorothy J. and Robert C. Welch Journalism Scholarship Fund c/o Perrysburg High School.
