Dorothy Tank

January 10, 1925 — December 6, 2015

Dorothy Tank, age 90 passed away Sunday, December 6th, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo. Born on January 10, 1925 to the late James & Dora Jouette in Clay City, Kentucky. She moved to Toledo, Ohio in her youth and graduated from Waite High School. Dorothy had amazing work ethics, which she passed down to her 4 children. As a young mother she was an Avon representative. When her children started school she became the first woman to be a manager at a Top Value Stamp Store located in the Great Eastern Shopping Center. Toledo Home Federal was her next destination of employment where she began as a file clerk and quickly advanced to Branch Manager of numerous NW Ohio office locations. Upon her retirement in the late 80’s, Dorothy was the only female member of Toledo Home Federal Board of Directors. Dorothy also held a Real Estate License and was a Notary. Dorothy adored her cottage at Lakeside Ohio, which she renovated with Ken. Family and friends alike were always welcome to visit, as they did often. She was an original member of The Dock Potatoes and was a longtime volunteer at the Lakeside museum. Her love for gardening and nature was present everywhere she lived with beautiful flowers and trees. Bird watching from her window was a favorite pastime. She was an active member of the Woodville Garden Club. Dorothy was the most selfless, loving mother you could ever imagine. She was highly intelligent, vibrant and a socially active woman. Everyone touched by her life was blessed to have known her. As a resident at The Waterford, she uplifted so many lives with her beautiful smile and compassion. She was an avid bingo player, craft promoter and Wii bowler. Even during her last weeks of life she would wheel herself down to the popcorn machine, scoop up popcorn and place it into little Ziploc baggies, after which she would take them one by one to each resident that was not quite as mobile as she. When she turned 90, after never having tasted it before, she discovered champagne and enjoyed a little sip at happy hour. Dorothy was a loyal Ohio State Buckeye fan. No matter what the score was, when she was able to attend a game, she would never leave the game early “because you don’t know what could happen in the last few minutes”. Later when she could only watch from home she had on all of her fan gear and rooted the team on. Dorothy was preceded in death by husband Kenneth, oldest son Kenneth Jr. and her 3 siblings Jean, Betty and Jim. She is survived by son Richard, daughters Patricia (Ed), Sandra (Jan), daughter-in-law Karen, grandchildren Jeremy (Laura), Andrew (Heather), Marisa and Ben, great grandchildren Logan, Riley, Abigale and Trevor, grand dog Mickey, along with many other relatives and extended family. Last but not least her special relationships with Tom, her nurse, along with all the other nurses and aides at The Waterford, her late fiancé Bud Taylor, and her “fifth child” Nancy Schiffer. Dorothy made it very clear to her children she did not want a viewing, therefore none will be held. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Sunday, December 13th, at The Waterford of Levis Commons 7100 S. Wilkinson Way Perrysburg, Ohio. Pastor Kristina from Solomon Lutheran Church Woodville, Ohio will preside over the short memorial, beginning at 1:30, with a private Family and Friends gathering to follow. Please feel free to wear your Ohio State Buckeye fan gear! In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, The Parkinson’s Foundation or Solomon Lutheran School Woodville, Ohio.
