Dorothy M. Stang passed away on March 5, 2016. She was born on July 18, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio. Preceding her in death was her husband, James A. Stang who she married during WWII on March 13, 1943. Dorothy was a registered nurse, graduating from Mercy Hospital and that was where she met the love of her life while he was a patient there. Back then nurses had to take care of the food and she joked that she gave him all the good food. She worked a lot of private duty nursing jobs, as well as a company nurse for the glass plant in Rossford. On the first day there, she had to take care of a person that fell through a plate of glass. Dorothy was also head nurse for the American Red Cross blood program and also worked at a lot of different disaster centers, as well as teaching First Aid classes. She ended her career working as a company nurse at Owens Illinois when they were in downtown Toledo. Her biggest memory there was flying down in a company jet to bring back Richard Niehaus when he was released from his captors. Dorothy was a member of Sylvania St. Joseph Church for 52 years and enjoyed setting up for the 6:45AM mass every morning for years. She loved to play Bridge and was involved with many groups that played cards. She is survived by her sons, John (Theresa), Jim (Mary), and Jeff (Sue); 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. A special thank you to her daughter-in-law, Mary, who took care of her the past 7 years, and who took care of her in her home with the help of Hospice of NW Ohio, and Shiela Burk. Special thank you to Kathy Gerace and the team of Sharon Benedict.
