Dorothy Anne Shoemaker

Dorothy Anne Shoemaker passed away peacefully under hospice care at her home in Toledo, on Friday, August 28, 2015, at the age of 93. Dorothy was born in Toledo on October 25, 1921 to Fred and Mary (Heuerman) Schroeder. In November 1959, she married William Bill Shoemaker and together they happily shared nearly 50 years of marriage. After graduation from Whitmer High School and Davis Business College, Dorothy went to work in 1942 as a legal secretary at Bryce, Duffey & Adkins, later Duffey & Henning. She remained with the firm until 1978, when she became employed by First Federal Savings and Loan in the same capacity upon Mr. Henning becoming general counsel for First Federal. Dorothys career as a legal secretary spanned nearly 50 years. Dorothy was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church for many years. An avid sportsman, she enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, shooting, and was a longtime member of Ottawa Lake Sportsmans Club. She also enjoyed reading and will be remembered for her fun loving nature and for her amazing organizational skills. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband on December 23, 2006; sister, Helen Schroeder; and brother, Lawrence Schroeder. Dorothy is survived by her step daughter, Karen (Vern) Hall; nephews, William (Sharon) and Donald Christy; cousins, Roger (Carol) and Henry (Marcia) Heuerman; grandsons, Scott (Sarah), Mark (Debbie) and Troy (Sarah) Hall; and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 3-8 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Memorial Lutheran Church, 3215 Douglas Rd., Toledo, with entombment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to ProMedica Hospice, the Visiting Angels and dear friend, Kim, for their loving care of Dorothy. Memorial contributions can be made to Memorial Lutheran Church or ProMedica Hospice.
