Dorothy A. Shipman, age 87, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at her home in Reading, MI. Dorothy was born March 24, 1926 in Cynthiana, KY to William and Mahala Richie. A resident of the Reading, MI area for 25 years, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary there. Dorothy loved fishing, especially with her dear friend, Effie. She also enjoyed making bead crafts, playing card games and working jigsaw puzzles which she often framed once completed. Dorothy liked going to concerts, watching Ohio State football games, and listening to country music, especially Conway Twitty. Most of all, Dorothy loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George R. Shipman; brothers, William, Frank, Claude, Fred, and Chester; sisters, Mary Agnes Richie, Grace Perrin, and Sarah Hamilton. She is survived by her children, Linda Riley, Wayne Elliott, Regina Herbster, Lyle Elliott, Ramona Glass, Diana Willard, Phyllis Elliott, Patty Luce, Robert Elliott, Keith Elliott, and Dean Shipman; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. on Monday, September 23, 2013 from 10:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Online condolences may be shared at walkerfuneralhomes.com.
