Dorothy C. Shern

Shern Dorothy C. Dorothy C. Shern, age 71, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008 at The Toledo Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Tim and Dorothy Sullivan, Dorothy was the first female claims adjustor for Provident Mutual Insurance Company. She had a wonderful entrepreneurial spirit and loved owning and running her own businesses. She started the Pretzel Stop at the Franklin Park Mall which she owned and operated for a number of years and also opened the World Tea Company in Sylvania which she was particularly proud of. Dorothy was very active in her childrens schooling and other activities. She volunteered at Ottawa Hills High School and was also involved with mothers support groups in the community. She helped initiate the school lunch program at OHHS and was past-president of the Ottawa Hills PTO. Dorothy loved spending time with her beautiful granddaughters who affectionately called her Nandee. She was also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Fundraising Campaign. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert; Children, Jennifer Shern and Scott Angela Shern; granddaughters, Ellen, Marla, and Grace Shern; and brother, Gerald Sullivan. Visitation will be held Monday from 3-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00am.
