Dorothy J. (Root) Rehder went to be with her Lord and Savior along with her loving husband , on Monday April 17, 2017. She passed away peacefully just 6 days before her 95th birthday under the loving care and support of her family. Dorothy was born April 23, 1922 to Earl and Lena (Brubaker) Root in Toledo, the youngest of four children. She graduated from DeVilbiss High School and went on to work at Ohio Bell Telephone Company. She later worked for Robinsons and the Monroe KOA. She married William (Bill) on December 28, 1940 and they shared 61 wonderful years together. Dorothy was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church for almost 95 years and was active in the youth group, couples club, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She started the toddler department which grew from 6 to 35 children. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 48 years. She volunteered for several years and was President of the Flower Hospital Auxiliary. She and her husband spent many wonderful years camping until retiring to Florida in 1983 where she was reunited with her siblings. Those were the Golden Years as you would often hear her say. She enjoyed her time playing cards with her family and friends. Her family was the most important part of her life. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Bill; sister Esther; brother Jack; son Thomas; and granddaughter Nancy. Surviving is her brother, Don (Mary) Root of Florida; daughters, Judith Johnson of Toledo; Bonnie (Dennis) Bailey of Strongsville; Dianna (Christopher) Knaggs of Temperance; and Marilyn Rehder. Also surviving are her pride and joy grandchildren, David (Angie) and Tom Dellinger, Tom (Janice), Steven and David Rehder, Brian, Matthew (Teresa), Michael and Todd Dittman, Chad (Leigh), Eric, Adam (Tracey) and Nicole Knaggs. She also had 14 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may gather at the Walker Funeral Home , 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Thursday from 4-8pm and Friday from 2-8 PM where an Eastern Star service will be conducted Friday at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday at Glenwood Lutheran Church 2545 Monroe St., Toledo after 10 AM where funeral services will be at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association or Great Lakes Caring Hospice. The family would like to thank Great Lakes Caring for the wonderful care given to Dorothy over the last two years, especially Brooke, Sarah and Jennifer.
