Dorothy May Price

May 7, 1926 — July 2, 2016

Dorothy is a life long Toledoan, born in Sylvania on May 7, 1926, to Russell & Jennie MacKenzie. She says of herself, “I was a little country girl, my parents didn’t go to college. My father was a patternmaker and his business saw him through the height of the Great Depression. We had cattle and a garden that allowed us to be self-sufficient. Even though they had never had the privilege to attend college, my parents believed strongly in education.” She loved her family, Toledo, children, education, music, and people in general! She often told her daughters, “I do for the living,” so that would include all of us! She cared about everyone and was genuinely interested. She graduated from The University of Toledo in 1948 with a degree in Secretarial Science from the Business School, and was named the “Outstanding Woman of the Year” for 1948. She was an original member of Zeta Tau Alpha, at the University of Toledo in 1946. Over the years, countless students sat and visited with her before and after classes at the studio and thought it was “awesome” when she attended so many of their performances. Mrs. Price’s generosity made history in the USA when she assisted bringing the English National Ballet School to Toledo! Most recently she supported BTT’s new project “Pointe Shoes and Palaces” which provides funding to local ballet students to attend ballet classes in Europe. We will miss her so much and dance with her in our hearts forever. • • The Toledo Opera • Toledo Day Nursery • Lourdes College – concert series • Kent State University • The Association of Two Toledo’s • The Toledo Animal Shelter Auxiliary • English Speaking Union • The Abilities Center • Dorothy donated a portion of her art collection to the Carlson Library, which included glass works of art, as well as masks from around the world. • Sophia Cantera Art & Cultural Center • Toledo School for the Arts • Crosby Gardens • Donated so many beautiful pianos around town…. • And supported individual PEOPLE that she met along the way that she grew to love and held in great esteem. Please learn from her example to love others and give generously.
