Dorothy Mae Pettrey

Dorothy Mae Pettrey, age 87, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Genesis HealthCare in Perrysburg. She completed the final leg of her journey to join the love of her life, her beloved Edgar, who proceeded her in death. She suffered from Alzheimer’s but it never diminished her feistiness or good humor. Dorothy was born on May 20, 1928 to Thomas and Florence (Davis) Christiansen in Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from Walbridge High School in 1946 and married her beloved husband, G. Edgar Pettrey, Jr. in 1948, who preceded her in death. Dorothy worked at the Express Motel in housekeeping for 26 years. She was a member of Cass Road Baptist Church in Perrysburg and was a great cook who could “make a meal out of nothing.” Dorothy is survived by her children: Vicky (Michael) Swan, Robert (Michelle) Pettrey, Brian (Patricia “Suzie” Marx) Pettrey, and Scott (Robin) Pettrey; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Dale (Betty) Christiansen. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; son, Larry Pettrey; brothers, Robert and David, and sisters, Phyllis and Nancy. Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 12:00-8:00 pm. at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main St. Walbridge, Ohio 43465 (419-666-3121). Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00 am. in the funeral home. Burial will take place in Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to “Jammies for Grammies” founded by her daughter Vicky, which collects new and gently used pajamas for nursing home patients.
