Dorothy J. Ostling

Dorothy J. Ostling, 92, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away, Monday, May 09, 2016, at her residence. Dorothy was born on September 16, 1923, in Oak Harbor, OH, the daughter of Victor and Clara (Herring) Berndt. She was a 1941 graduate of Port Clinton High School. On June 22, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, OH, she married Howard G. Ostling and he preceded her in death on May 31, 2008. Dorothy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she worked as the church secretary for 30 years, retiring in 1985. She also belonged to the Naomi Circle and was a member of the Mother’s Roundtable. Dorothy was a volunteer at H.B. Magruder Hospital Auxiliary for 26 years where she received the volunteer of the year award in 2004. She was a American Red Cross Volunteer and was elected into the 2001 Ottawa County Red Cross Hall of Fame. Dorothy was a member of the Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home Auxiliary and she delivered mobile meals. She was an avid Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory are: Daughter: Sharon (James “Snip”) Snider; Grandson: Mike Snider; Great-Granddaughter: Haley (Tristan) Rivera; Great-great-granddaughter: Layla Rivera; Nephew: Lowell (Karen) Johannsen and Niece: Darla Johannsen. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother: Donald Berndt. Visitation will be held from 5-8PM, Wednesday, May 11, 2016, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH. Funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. James Lehman at 11:00AM, Thursday, May 12, 2016 in St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, OH. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
