Dorothy M. Ludwig passed away the morning of Wednesday, September 4th peacefully in her sleep after a long and happy life at the age of 87. Dorothy was born and raised in Steubenville, Ohio where she lived with her older sister Kay and younger brother David. Dorothy excelled in sports and won the girls city championship tennis title. She attended Mount Union College where she earned her RN Diploma then served as a cadet nurse during WWII. She met Donald Pinkerton at Mount Union College, whom she married and they relocated to Westfield Center, Ohio. Dorothy, in addition to raising four children and mowing acres of grass, worked full-time at the Lodi Medical Center as the Head Nurse and was instrumental in forming, as well as serving on, the Westfield Center emergency rescue squad. She later remarried to Richard D. Ludwig and upon retirement, the happy couple moved to Winter Haven, Florida where they spent many years playing golf and enjoying the Florida lifestyle. Dorothy continued to work, as was her nature, both as an RN and as a part-time employee at Universal Studios, when she wasnt conducting swim-exercise classes. After Ricks passing in 2005, Dorothy moved to Ft. Myers to be closer to her youngest daughter, Ariane Murray. In July of 2012, Dorothy made another move, this time back north to Ohio to assisted living in the Port Clinton/Sandusky area, residing near her eldest daughter Deb Pinkerton. Scott Pinkerton of Westfield Center and Don Pinkerton of Rocklin, California are her loved and surviving sons. Dorothy leaves her previously mentioned children, Kent and Kurt Ludwig, eight grand-children, and two great, grand-children. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, Ohio. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, September 7, 2013. Dorothy will be buried at 11:00 AM Monday, September 9th at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman Ohio alongside Rick. To respect Dorothys practical side, live plants or donations to the Development Fund, 2025 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio in memory of Dorothy Ludwig, Memory Care Unit would be preferred over floral arrangements.
