I was born in South Bend, IN on May 30, 1923 to Stephen H. and Helen Cecelia (Boyer) Kubiak. I had one sister, Joan Marie, born on Sept. 4, 1926. Our mother died Jan. 18, 1929 and in Aug. 1934, our father married Harriet Krull who had a daughter, Marian. All of the above preceded me in death. I lived much of my life in the Chicago area. I married twice - Orville C. Verner and John M. Howard. I have one son, Thomas P. Verner (Nancy); one grandson, Stephen (Diane); one granddaughter, Gretchen; and three great grandchildren: Eva, Noa and Theo. My working life was spent in Chicago retail with two wonderful North Michigan Ave. businesses - Woloch and Bauer, where I was buyer of handbags and costume jewelry; and Lenard Stern, a men’s custom neckwear and shirt company. After leaving the Chicago area, I lived in Ponce Inlet, FL until the death of my husband in 1991 when I moved to Toledo to join my son Tom. I enjoyed the camaraderie of many womens clubs and was president of: the Inverness Womens Club, the Clarinda Cady Chapter of Questers, the Toledo Womens Luncheon Club and the Toledo Metropolitan Ladies Club. I was also a member of the Ponce Inlet Womens Club, the Flower Hospital Auxiliary, their Lunch Bunch and Samagama. The family wishes to thank Dorothy’s caregivers, Kathy Nidek and Tracy Wendel for their wonderful care and friendship. There will be no visitation and a memorial service planned for a later date will be private. Memorial contributions are suggested to benefit the charitable activities of the Toledo Metropolitan Ladies Club, 2116 Parkwood Ave, Toledo, OH 43620.
