Doris Rebecca Smith

Doris Rebecca Smith of the Woodlands, age 91 was born September 30, 1926 and passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 in Toledo, Ohio. Doris, the daughter of John and Helen Stoetzer grew up in Fairmont, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Mount Vernon Seminary in Washington, D.C. and received her Bachelors and Masters degree from West Virginia University. Doris was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity and was one of the original Traveling Consultants for the Fraternity. She was a long-time member of the Toledo Museum of Art and volunteered as a museum Docent and member of the museum Aides. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Junior League of Toledo and the Toledo Country Club. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Sunset House and was a volunteer for Ottawa Hills Schools for many years. As a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, she served as a Deacon. Doris was very generous with her time as a community volunteer throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph “Jack” Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Gay (Terry) Dwyer, Robin (Keith) Buckey; grandchildren, Morgan Buckey, J.J. Buckey and Michael Dwyer, sister Betty Gray of Fort Myers, Florida and brother, John Stoetzer of Eagle, Colorado. The family would like to thank her dedicated caregivers, Gale Comanescu, Cheryl Grant, Takesha Jordan, Tina Morgan and Darlene Warren. Also, thank you to the wonderful staff at the Woodlands. Thanks also go to our friend Amy Wyckoff. A private family service will be held at Walker Funeral Home followed by burial at Joy Cemetery, Ottawa Hills. There will be no visitation. The family suggests memorials be made to the Toledo Museum of Art or The Sunset Retirement Communities. Friends will remember Doris as a fun and proper southern lady who feigned the vapors, was planner to Jack’s parties and guaranteed to always have an extra pair of white gloves in her pocket.
