Doris Marie Parkins, age 72, of Maumee, Ohio passed away after a twelve year battle with GIST cancer peacefully on Monday September 27th, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born November 10,1948 in New Riegel, Ohio to Francis and Marie (Buchman) Hohman. The youngest of five children, her parents instilled in her a strong work ethic and devotion of her Catholic faith. Doris married Ron Parkins on April 11,1970 and had four children together. She was active in many church related activities at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Maumee. She served as an usher/greeter, participated in perpetual adoration, co-chaired the funeral lunch program, was past president of the Rosary Altar Society, coordinated the traveling pilgrim virgin statue program, and held officer positions with the mother’s guild and school board. She was also involved in the TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) retreat and the Toledo YES (Youth Elect Service) Project as the kitchen leader. She provided in-home childcare for 25 years and over the past 18 years served as the rectory housekeeper for St. Joseph’s in Maumee. Beyond her church, she also volunteered with the Red Cross and Election Board. She was an avid supporter of the University of Toledo Men's/Women's basketball and football teams. Doris is survived by her husband Ron; her four children, Theresa (David) Cordle of Curtice, OH., Malinda (Steven) Siers of Springfield Township, OH., Brenda (Mark) Osbourne of Monclova Township, OH; and Kevin (Julie) Parkins of Perrysburg, OH; 12 grandchildren; many brothers and sisters in law; nieces and nephews; and many other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth (Smith) and husband Ron; brothers, Floyd Hohman and wife Martha, Roy Hohman and wife Ann and Merle Hohman; parent-in-laws, Lloyd and Margaret Parkins; sister-in-law, Lucinda Schultz; brother-in-law, Richard Carr; nieces and nephews; and other family members. Friends and family will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee on Friday October 1, 2021 from 2-8 pm where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 9-10 am in St. Joseph Church 104 W. Broadway St. Maumee, Ohio 43537 where the funeral mass will be at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those unable to attend, the funeral service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting stjosephmaumee.org Memorial contributions can be made to the Rosary Altar Society of St. Joseph’s in Maumee in care of the church or the Toledo YES Project.
