Doris Morris

June 11, 1931 — April 3, 2014

Doris Urban Morris, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away April 3, 2014 at home. Doris was born on June 11, 1931 in Toledo to her beloved parents, Gilbert and Beatrice Schaefer Urban, and graduated from Woodward High School in 1949. She worked at Flower Hospital on Cherry Street as an aide for 7 years, enjoying her time serving the patients, and then worked at A-1 Letter Shop for 5 years. Doris then returned to the medical field in 1963, working for Dr. Harland Howe at the Toledo Clinic. When the clinic opened its present facility in 1970, she worked with the Emeritus Program with Dr. Howe, Dr. Meffley and Dr. Neal. After Dr. Howe retired, she worked for Dr. Nasar Ali and Dr. Mayboob, until she retired in 1986. Doris was active in the Wesley United Methodist Church, Zion United Methodist Church, and a member of the Palestine Chapter #51 of the Eastern Stars and Oriental Shrine. Survivors include her sisters, Shirley William Bartkavage, Jean Robert Baker, Martha William Strayer and brother-in-law, James Derrick. She is also survived by her step-daughters, Jayne Larry Smith, Janet Jay Kramer, Pam Hall, Jan Aiello and grandchildren, Laurie Weinburg, Greg Smith, Chad Kramer, Michael Kramer and their families, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was married to the love of her life, Jay Morris, for 33 years and he passed away in May of 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Beatrice Urban, her sisters, Mary Alice Blessing and Joan Derrick, and her brother-in-law, William Blessing, Sr. Spending time with family was very important to her and she reminded them how important it was to build memories. The family request any contributions be made to Zion United Methodist Church, Cherry Street Mission, Toledo Fire Fighters Museum Inc. or Flower Hospital Foundation. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Zion United Methodist Church, 2600 Copland Blvd. Toledo, OH, on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11 AM.
