Doris M. Lewis

March 11, 1927 — December 23, 2023

Doris M. Lewis, age 96, of Toledo, died on December 23, 2023 at Traditions at West Park Place. She was born March 11, 1927 in Toledo to the late Clarence H. and Isobel (Roberts) Goodman.

Doris went to DeVilbiss High School where she met her future husband John L. Lewis while she was fulfilling her responsibility as a hall monitor. Doris and John were married on August 18, 1949. After marriage, Doris was a homemaker and eventually a mother of three children. She also sewed many clothes for the family. Doris enjoyed arts and crafts all her life, becoming quite a talented artist from the time she was a young girl. As an adult, she became quite adept at painting ceramics. Her pride and joy was a nativity scene with a homemade stable/manger. Each piece included small jewels and miniature pearls which she placed on one by one with tweezers. Every Sunday in December, the entire set was boxed up and taken to Collingwood United Methodist Church where she and John were active members for many years. There, she lovingly set it up on the alter and then boxed it up after the service to return it to her buffet table at home. Doris also enjoyed painting knick knacks and giving them as gifts. She also enjoyed reading and playing bridge and pinochle with friends and family.

After John retired, he and Doris enjoyed an annual pilgrimage to Ft. Myers Beach, Florida with her sister Helen and brother-in-law Bill Brewis where they stayed during the month of February. While there, Doris collected many shells which she would use with her hobbies.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Isobel, her husband John, her brother and sister-in law Robert and Lillian Goodman, and her brother-in-law Bill Brewis. Doris is survived by her sister Helen (Bill) Brewis; children Vicki (Rick) Horn, Tom (Kim) Lewis, and Debbie Lewis; granddaughters Stacy Valentine, Stephanie Slivinski, and Madison Stout; great grandchildren Sierra Leonard and Hunter Valentine; and great great grandchildren Bentley Leonard, Carson Leonard, and Jaylen Valentine.
