Doris Fay LaJeunesse, age 93, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023 in her home at The Woodlands in Ottawa Hills, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in Richmond, Indiana to Howard and Bessie Shiplett on May 22, 1930.
Doris was a Licensed Practical Nurse, who graduated from Northwest Ohio Practical Nurse Training Center in Toledo, Ohio. She married the love of her life, Joseph LaJeunesse, in 1981, and together they adored visiting their family and exploring the world. They enjoyed spending their winters in Englewood, Florida for many years, where they had many close friends.
Later in life, Doris was an active resident at The Woodlands, where she loved making new friends and was always ready for fun and adventure.
Doris’s pride and joy was the time that she spent with her family, who loved her dearly. She was always known to end a conversation with, “I love you more!”
Doris is predeceased by her husband Joseph LaJeunesse and son Thomas (Laura) Kistler. She is survived by her children Susan Kistler, Karen (Bob) Dunlap, Michael Kistler and Linda James. Her grandchildren include Ben Kistler, Phil (Candace) Kistler, Stefanie (Nick) Benner, Bobby (Kate) Dunlap, Hannah Kistler, Nicole James, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Doris was welcomed into the LaJeunesse family by her stepchildren Carol (Alan) Dills, Janet (Tim, deceased) Holt, Jennifer Jacoby, and William (Lori) LaJeunesse. Her step-grandchildren include Matthew (Sue) Dills, Andy (Jen) Dills, Cassie (Jay) LaCourse, Darcy Henry, Amanda (Andy) Shelton, Peter (Jen) Jacoby, Will (Jen) Jacoby, Annie (Cody) Rigg, Corbin LaJeunesse (Jeff Horn), and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 @ 11:00 am at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. Guests are invited for visitation one hour prior to the service. Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider Wounded Warriors or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
The family would like to sincerely thank the caring staff and residents of The Woodlands and Ashanti Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Doris will always be remembered for her love of life and joyful spirit.
