Doretta Jean Perry, 88, of Toledo, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025. She was born in Toledo on July 25, 1936, to Fredrick and Gladys (Lauer) Mickle. Doretta graduated from Woodward High School where she was a majorette in the band. Over the years she has worked various jobs including cashier at Centre Market, secretary of Lutheran Social Services, and housing manager for income-based housing. Her most important role throughout her life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She had an infectious laugh that made everyone near her feel joy. Doretta loved life and was always smiling. She and her husband, Robert Perry, were the caretakers of their quadriplegic son, Douglas. After losing her son in 2016, and husband in 2018, Doretta always kept her faith to make it through. She had a way of finding the best in a situation and sharing her vibrant personality. Doretta loved to cook, shop, and was a crochet enthusiast – making many lap robes and prayer blankets for cancer patients. She also spent many hours volunteering at St. Anne’s Hospital where she touched many lives.
Doretta is survived by her daughters, Cyndi (Roger) Coe, Tracy (David) Screptock, Andrea (Scott) Decavitch; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Perry; son, Douglas Perry; and parents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 2-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623.
