Donald Edwin “Wolfie” Wolf, age 84, of Port Clinton, Ohio, passed away on November 8, 2025, undoubtedly still trying to make someone laugh on his way out. Born on September 27, 1941, to Ethel (Harger) and Delphin Wolf.
Don proudly served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, stationed north of Cuba. While the world saw it as a tense, historic standoff, Don remembered it more as “a whole lot of waiting around and trying not to get yelled at.” His stories from that time only got funnier (and more dramatic) with each retelling.
After returning home, Don worked for Standard Products until retirement. Work was work—but retirement? That was something he took seriously. Don enjoyed traveling and was always up for a casino trip, convinced that the next machine was “definitely the lucky one.” Whether he hit the jackpot or walked out with pocket lint, he always left with a good story.
Wolfie was a simple guy. He didn’t need fancy things—just good company, a reason to joke, and the people he loved. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandkids, who could count on him for his perfectly timed one-liners. Though he’s no longer here to make us laugh, we know he’s likely trying to talk his way into a VIP lounge somewhere—charming the staff and making a new friend before he even gets through the door.
He leaves behind family and friends who will forever remember his humor, his honesty, and the way he could make even an ordinary day brighter. Don gave us laughter, love, and stories that we will carry forever.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Delphin Wolf; his wife, Linda Wells; brother, Jay Strohl; and sisters, Joanne Jonston and Patricia Bowling. He is survived by his brother, John Wolf; former wife, Elizabeth Fisher-Key; children, Natalie (Jerry) Tarolli, John (Sandy) Wolf, James Wolf, and Thomas (Ericka) Wolf; grandchildren, Matthew Elchisco, Christine (Nate) Miller, Jessica (Steven) Imholt, Kyle (Samanatha) Wolf, Ryan Wolf, Michael (Kelly) Finken, Geneva Finken, Nathan (Francesca) Wolf, Lilli Wolf, Jordan (Kyle) Oberlin, Alexandra (Kyle) O’Donnell, Joshua Wolf, and Frankie Wolf; great-grandchildren, Christian Miller, Vada Miller, Stella Miller, Easton Wolf, Emmarie Wolf, Declen Finken, Alfred Finken, Finley Wolf, Charlotte Wolf, Tyson Imholt, and Madison Oberlin; step-daughters, Emily Below and Gillian (Shelly) Wells; step-grandchildren, Gabrielle Below, Abigail Below, Seth Below, Luke Below, and Morgan Wells; step-great-grandchildren, Russell and Quinn, and many other loved people who will miss him, especially Chet’s best family, John, Trish, and Heidi.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 1:00pm-4:00pm on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. A prayer service and military honors will be held at 4:00pm in the funeral chapel. In honor of him, we encourage everyone to share a joke, tell a funny story about Wolfie, and enjoy the simple things—just as he always did.
