Donald E. Pickering, Sr.

Donald E. Pickering, Sr., age 75, of Toledo passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the St. Lukes Hospital. He was born October 29, 1935 in Toledo to Alva and Faye Davis Pickering. Don was employed by LOF for 31 years as a glass worker and also worked for Splendor Shower Door Company. He was very active with the Scouts as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for many years. Don was a member of the Rossford Eagles and loved to bowl. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and whittling. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Don will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He believed and loved his Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. Don is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sallie Dicken Pickering whom he married May 15, 1971; children, Glenna John Grove, Becky Jim Wilburn, Donald Fred Lynn Altaffer, Jr., Pam Jim West Burdue, SueEllen Lawrence Gifford, Donna Barrett, John Theresa Altaffer, Dawn Martin and Robert Cindy Altaffer; 24 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Weber, Barbara Bond and Mary Jane Pickering; brothers, John Judy Pickering and Leonard Kathy Pickering; sister-in-law, Dolores Adams special grandson, Todd Jennifer Altaffer; daughters-in-law, Susan Caril and Jill Cleghorn and niece, Gail Brauer. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sons, Richard Altaffer and Donald Pickering, Jr. and brother, Richard Pickering. Family and friends may visit Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 2-8 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee where the Rossford Eagles will lead a service at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
