Donald "Don" Martin Overholt, 86, of Toledo, Ohio, peacefully departed this world on November 12, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in Toledo on March 15, 1937, to his late parents, Vern and Mollie (Hysell) Overholt, and grew up alongside his siblings. Don was a proud graduate of Waite High School, where he began his journey into the working world.
Don initially embarked on a career as a railroad car inspector, but his passion led him to become a dedicated veterinary assistant, a role he cherished deeply. Later in life, he transitioned to work at DeVilbiss Manufacturing, which he faithfully served until its closure in 1989. He then found a new home at Jeep, where he formed lasting friendships and eventually retired.
In his leisure time, Don was an avid reader with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He and his cherished wife, Barbara (Jenne), explored the world together, embarking on numerous cruises and memorable journeys throughout their 45 years of marriage. An ardent animal lover, Don had a heart that welcomed stray cats, and he cherished every moment with his family's dogs. He delighted in cooking, and solving puzzles, and shared unforgettable fishing expeditions with his children, brother, and nephews at Farnsworth Park and Lake Erie. He relished the excitement of the casino and found comfort at the poker table. Don shared a bond with his loyal friends at West Park Place, where they gathered for spirited bingo and poker games several times a week.
Don possessed an undeniable charm and a wonderful sense of humor that left a lasting impression on those fortunate to know him. He will be forever remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Family meant the world to him; the cherished memories they created together will endure through the ages. His absence will be deeply felt.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Overholt; his children, Jeff Overholt, Karen (Joe) Ambrose, Bethanne (John) Counts, James Myers, Scott Myers, Robin (Joe) Axe, and Todd Myers (Martin Santiago); 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack and Vern; his daughter, Debbie Skurka; his grandson, Corey Axe; and his stepson, Kevin Myers.
