Donald Raymond Nichols Sr.

Donald R. Nichols, Sr., of Holland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026 at the age of 91. He was born on May 23, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio to Raymond and Isabel (Bronikowski) Nichols. Don frequently spoke of the many jobs he had during his lifetime. Beginning as a bowling pinsetter in his youth, working at Swayne Field, and then later working as a tree trimmer, truck driver, and more. Don settled on truck driving and retired from Central Transport (U.S. Truck) in the 1990s. Don lived a very full life enjoying many hobbies including electronics, drawing, camping, fishing, boating, hunting, bowling, golfing, listening to his home stereos, and riding his motorcycle. Once retired, his lawn and flower garden were a great source of pride for him.

Surviving are Don's children: Lisa (Tyler) Kolb, Cindy Nichols, Don Nichols II, Susan Langel, and son-in-law Sam McAuley. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Alyssa, Taylor, Ryan, Samantha, Brittany, Tiffeny, Robert, Anthony, David, Danny, Melissa, Don III, and Michael. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Roberta; parents, Raymond and Isabel Nichols; brothers, Robert Nichols, Jim (Homer) Groves, Richard Groves; children, Michael Nichols, Cathy McAuley, Sandra Nichols, and son-in-law Todd Langel.

Interment will be private. The family suggests that contributions in Don's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter.
